Wait List Policy for Meals on Wheels Program

Wait List Policy

In Amador and Calaveras Counties, Common Ground Senior Services may, from time to time, be required to place a new Meals on Wheels applicants on a temporary wait list.

A wait list is created when the demand for Meals on Wheels services exceeds our organization’s funding capacity or route space availability.

Procedures

Upon receiving a request or referral, the Meals on Wheels staff will inform the applicant if a wait list is in existence.  If a wait list exists, our staff will provide the applicant with information about other food resources, including grocery store options, food pantries, food banks, and available Senior Dining Program meal sites.

As openings become available, an assessment will be made to ensure that the next applicant on the wait list meets the qualifications for Meals on Wheels.

Unless there is an acute need (an acute need is met when an applicant is recently discharged from the hospital or rehabilitation facility), qualified applicants on the wait list will be placed on the Meals on Wheels program based on the date of their request or referral.

Once on the program, applicants will be assessed quarterly to determine continued eligibility.

An applicant on the wait list has the right to file a formal written Grievance with Common Ground Senior Services.  A written grievance must be mailed to:
